5 Things To Learn From The Aliens: Colonial Marines Debacle

3. Game Developers Need To Deliver On Their Promises

Gearbox-Software No one sets out to make a bad game and mislead their audience. Every developer wants to go into a new project and do new and exciting things. Wanting to dbe ambitious and deliever a great product should be high on the priority list of any developer creating a new game. But being mindful about what you can achieve and what you are on target to complete is very important. Because if you don't, you could find that you have alienated your audience. For as much as I like him, Peter Molyneux is a common offender of such a crime. He will often promise the world and end up delivering a very stripped version of said world. I believe that when Gearbox showed the demo footage for A:CM, they had every intention of achieving that standard, but for what ever reason, it just didn't come off. The result has left fans feeling lied too, when really it may have just been a failed ambition. I am sure no one at Gearbox had the intention of misleading customers so incredibly, but that is what has happened, and it is possible that it is all due to failed ambition. Of course, coming out to explain that some of what the fans feel like they were promised may not make it into the final game may have helped to not exacerbate the problem though...
