We heard you like video games, so while you’re waiting for your video game to be a video game, how about playing another video game?

Developers, publishers and arcade heroes Namco had a bit of a brainwave back in 1995 and filed a patent for the rights for their games to be the only ones allowed to have seperate minigames in the loading screens. It all started with a little game called Ridge Racer, on the Playstation.

While the console was whirring away, working hard to load the driving game, players could pass the time shooting some aliens in Space Invaders.

So let’s take a look at some examples of other methods video games have implemented to try and curb the boredom while we wait for the delicious main course to be served.
