5 Ways Fighters And MOBAs Are Similar

3. Instant Results For Actions

Depth There are two main reasons as to why people choose to put themselves through the torture that is learning one of these games. People like seeing their work bear fruit. It's the same reason why many people refrain from writing that novel or trying to paint that masterpiece they have always wanted. All of those things seem like thankless work that doesn't pay off until they are finished, and, even then, the reward may not match the blood, sweat and tears spent to create or finish it. This is present in video games, also. Most Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games share this characteristic, and it is what turns people some people off of those games. In an entertainment industry that emphasizes personal growth and achievement, it just isn't appealing to know that most of the fun doesn't even begin until you nearly complete the game, which can take months upon months of mindless grinding. This isn't the case, however, in Fighters and MOBAs. Usually, in these games, the only leveling system you ever see is not used to limit the player but, rather, to showcase the personal skill and time investment into the actual matter-at-hand, instead of just how long someone has played the game. In order to keep the newer players from being punished by the veterans, many of these games include an underlying matchmaking system that will almost always match players of similar skill levels and time played. All of these things are done under the hood; so, the player doesn't have to stress with these details of limitation and statistics and can focus on practicing the game and having fun. The second reason is very simple. There is just something about facing a player that the AI cannot touch. Artificial Intelligence in video games has a limit, at least right now, but there is no limit to player ability. In games with so much depth, there are always going to be better players to face, and that is a challenge and a calling that gamers just cannot seem to ignore, and why should they? That's what competitive gaming is all about!
