2. The SEGA Activator
The supposed precursor to the Kinect, the SEGA Activator allows you to be the characters portrayed on-screen. Each move you make is replicated - when you walk, kick or punch, your digital enemies will fall accordingly. Attempting to be ahead of its time, the removal of a physical controller at this stage in 1993 may have been premature, as rather than reacting to physical movements, the eight quadrants of the controller required you to throw out your arms in different directions, helicoptering around the enclosed space. It had to be used in a room with a perfectly flat ceiling lest the infa-red beams encounter interference.
