4. Metal Gear Solid Franchise
Is there a more iconic video game character than Solid Snake? If there is, I'm certainly not aware of that character. Some may call Hideo Kojima's running legacy a convoluted mess full of weird scenarios but if you look past all of that, there's weight to his themes. Take Metal Gear Solid 2 for example, which is largely centered on internet and media Government censorship which is sadly something prevalent in America today. It's like Kojima was in a time machine when he scribed these masterpieces. Aside from pertinent social commentary however, the games are incredibly dramatic and filled with moments that made cry. Sometimes they were just tears of happiness too. I can personally talk about this franchise forever and plan on doing so in future articles, but for right now I'm just saying that Metal Gear Solid created the initial spark in mature video game writing, and stands tall today as an unforgettable line of games.
