50 Most Memorable Achievements in Gaming History

16. Bayonetta - Angel Slayer

Complete all Alfheim portals. Bayonetta is probably one of the hardest games I€™ve ever played. It€™s easy enough to button bash your way through at times, but collecting everything and finishing the game on the harder difficulties is almost a feat not worth attempting. The Alfheim portals represent some of the toughest challenges the game has to offer and often require specific weapons €“ themselves tough to acquire €“ in order to complete. If you can beat this one, you€™re a more dedicated gamer than I.

17. Darksiders - Dark Rider

Ride for 100 miles. Although Darksiders is another game with a small handful of sneaky missable achievements, the most absurd in the game isn€™t one of them. In order to unlock these points, War must clock up a total of one hundred miles on his fiery steed. It sounds simple enough, except that even if you were to complete the game in its entirety, accessing all unlockables and traversing every corner of the map, your horse mileage would barely even come to half of the requirement. The best way to get these points €“ as demonstrated by many videos the web over €“ is to simply tie an elastic band over the analogue stick so the horse runs in a perpetual circle, freeing you up to do something else for several hours. And it will take several hours.

18. Borderlands - My Brother Is An Italian Plumber

Kill an enemy by stomping on its head. Another of my personal favourites, this achievement is surprisingly difficult to get and takes a fair amount of time and guesswork. The best way to do it €“ by getting a friend to distract an enemy whilst you repeatedly bounce up and down on their head for several minutes €“ also happens to be the one the one that looks utterly ridiculous.

19. Red Dead Redempton - What About Hand Grenades?

Get a ringer in a game of Horseshoes. Similar to GTA IV€™s Qub3d achievement, this is pretty tough but a great way to sample some of the delights the Red Dead world has to offer. Achievements like this, which encourage exploration and sidetracking, are often sure-fire winners in open world games.

20. Lips - Welcome To My Lips

Overly easy achievements often exist to lure the player into an otherwise awful game (see The Last Airbender), but in this case the developer seems to have included these five gamer points purely because they€™re a fan of innuendo. After unlocking this by accessing the €˜My Lips€™ section of the menu, the achievement description simply reads €˜entered My Lips for the first time€™. Jokers.
