50 Most Memorable Achievements in Gaming History

31. Mirror's Edge - Test Of Faith

Complete the game without shooting an enemy. Similar to Deus Ex€™s Pacifist, this is a fantastic achievement in that it guides the player toward a whole new playstyle which involves a significant amount of planning and quick thinking to reach the goal. As a long-term goal over the course of a whole game, it€™s also pretty sweet when it pops up at the end for a healthy eighty gamer points.

32. Geometry Wars 2 - Smile

2, 4, 11, 15, 17, 18 and 19. One of my personal favourites, the Smile achievement requires the player to deliberately lose a certain amount of stages in the Sequence game mode of Geometry Wars 2, so that the ticks and crosses of the progress view form a smiley face. The game mode is notoriously tough on its own and playing through in a manner which sees you deliberately losing lives takes a lot of time and focus, as well as a lot of classic Geometry Wars style screaming at the television.

33. Street Fighter IV - Playing To Win!

Win 10 ranked matches in a row. Street Fighter contains some of the most well-trained and obsessive gamers you€™ll find on the professional circuit. When Street Fighter IV was released, there was really only one way to get this achievement €“ blitz the multiplayer as soon as possible and hope that you come across ten other people like you in a row, who bought the game because they player SFII some years ago and don€™t really know that much about fighters. I€™d vouch that this achievement would be almost impossible to get today for anyone who isn€™t a fighting game veteran.

34. Halo Reach - Heat In The Pipe

Scored 1,000,000 points in a Firefight game. I honestly have no idea how long this achievement takes to complete, as I€™ve never met anyone yet to complete it legitimately. Around the same time people were starting to realise this was almost an insurmountable task, a few custom game mods started popping up which gave the player infinite health and ammo and spawned over tenfold the amount of enemies. The result was complete and utter, not to mention memorable, carnage. Even with these mods it still took over an hour of play to get the achievement pop.

35. Assassin's Creed 2 - In Memory of Pettrucio

Collect all the feathers. Very similar to GTAIV€™s achievement involving pigeons, this one is about as difficult and time consuming but, given that you get to do a whole lot of freerunning over ancient civilisations, a little more rewarding.
