6 Reasons Why Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Is The Highest Rated Game Of All Time

4. The Enemies

Where would we be without the evil demons and monsters of Hyrule? Inflicted upon the population after Ganondorf instigates his mission to rule the world, Hyrule has a variety of nasty creatures to keep you entertained and even scared throughout the story. They range from mildly irritating forces such as the poes that creep up out of the ground and follow you round, to really quite sinister monsters such as the Redeads, the life-sucking zombies that paralyze you with a single stare. To this day, I have to mute the TV whilst running through the graveyard. In addition to this, they are also integral to the narrative of the game. They are used throughout to demonstrate the monstrous and destructive nature of Ganondorf's evil grip on Hyrule. Like any real adventure game, Link must repeatedly overcome some pretty nasty evil in order to save the world. This age-old epic narrative provides for some real and intense moments of gaming. You genuinely feel scared into wanting to tackle each of the mini-bosses and bosses alike. But this gives you a great sense of accomplishment when you finally defeat them (even if it is your twentieth attempt). And all of these battles culminate in the greatest boss of all, Ganondorf. Present as a constant threat throughout the game, the writers have depicted an extremely sinister and menacing villain, arguably one of the greatest in modern day gaming. Graphically, his yellow eyes, balding hair, pointy nose and extreme height make for a terrifying illustration. What makes Ganondorf so sinister is the writers' complete lack of regard for Disney-esque pretence and a willingness to go that extra mile to ensure their audience is gripped by this ever-threatening bad guy. And of course, let's not forget the transformation into the ultimate boss, Ganon, after stealing the triforce and using its magic to become a demonic monstrosity. This results in a pivotal David and Goliath-style battle, and motivated every single gamer into wanting to become the greatest hero of all time. Young or old, you can't help but be impressed with the multitude of enemies you must face to save Hyrule.
