6 Reasons You Need To Start Building Your Own Video Games

6. It's Not As Hard As You Think

This one is just getting over the initial hurdle of where to start, it can be a little overwhelming at first just trying to get all the information in one place. But I can tell you straight away that games developing from any angle is something that anyone with basic computer skills can approach. Video game development really breaks into three main segments: story, graphics and code. Within these you have lots of different elements, within story you have to ask yourself what sort of game you want to build, first person shooter? Role-playing game? Simple driving game? Within graphics you can break it up into designing characters and locations and actually putting them into 3D graphics. And within coding you can go from just the basics of how lighting is going to work in your game to how the physics of it is going to work. All of this can be done, by you, at home, for free so long as you have some medium expectations. While you're not going to be able to create your own Skyrim from the ground up, (although you could create some mind blowing mods if you check out the internet forums,) you can breathe some life into your pet project with some patience. So if you've got some drive, patience and want to tackle any or all of these aspects, read on!

I'm currently obtaining my doctorate in Astrophysics making me a huge nerd. I'm a fan of movies, books and games as well as having a big soft spot for music, particularly soundtracks. If it's an hour long discussion about which Final Fantasy game was the best, I'm your best bet.
