6 Reasons Why You Should Be Excited About Starbound
4. The Randomness
Let's randomly farm some random crops with random tools. Yeah, sounds great.
Starbound's biggest strength is in the fact that the engine is created with some heavy duty universe creation in mind. No, seriously, aside from the unique and crafted items, absolutely everything can and will be procedurally generated. Weapons, NPCs, animals, tools, weapons, planets, galaxies... You name it, it's gonna be random (this sentence sounded so much better in my head). This will allow near limitless hours of exploration and fun to be had.
Sure, there's a slight possibility that it'll end up infected with the Borderlands syndrome (the first game; Borderlands 2 fixed this) and all the stuff looks alike, but there will be a way to circumvent this theoretical issue. Apparently, the devs are working hard on "modularizing" the entire game into modifiable... well, modules. It's going to be real easy to draw and add new weapon parts, write new terrain generation code and stuff like that. At least for the modders, but they do some seriously crazy sh*t at times so we can safely assume that there will be an abundance of mods soon after the game's release.
Aside from that, all the random stuff Starbound will have in the golden (final) build will be backed up by weekly and monthly content updates (free, not DLC) that are planned for the entire year after the release. It's highly doubtful that we'll be craving for additional content for quite some time in this game.
