6 Terrifying Moments In Non-Horror Video Games

5. The Dunwich Building - Fallout 3

BioShock Infinite Boy of Silence
Bethesda Softworks

The Fallout universe has its fair share of hidden bizarre lore and locations but the Dunwich Building goes beyond reasonable expectations. Aptly named after 'The Dunwich Horror' - best-selling horror novel of H.P. Lovecraft - strange things are inside the four walls of that unassuming office building.

Hallucinations, whispering voices in the background, self-closing doors, radioactive ghouls, and an obelisk reeking with eldritch power at the heart of the building driving people literally insane. You have to walk through the building yourself to understand the creepy atmosphere within.

If you do decide to run into the building, be sure that you are wearing the best kind of armour that the game can afford (for peace of mind since your head will still be reeling from hallucinations, armour or no armour). Be sure to arm yourself with the best kind of weapons, too, and also have plenty of ammo to go around. The biggest physical threat of this place is the radioactive ghouls who will usually pop up behind your back after an episode of hallucination.

Dunwich Building is a marked location on the map and you have two options if you want to pay it a visit. The first option is to walk to Girdershade, seek out Ronald Laren, and ask him if there is anything peculiar in the region. He'll tell you about the building, which will be automatically marked on your map.

If you want to cut right to the chase, the building's directly south of Girdershade (just walk a straight line from Girdershade down the map). Alternatively, you can also walk a straight path west from Tenpenny Tower. Since it will be the only standing building for miles all around, it's going to be pretty easy to spot.
