3. Shadow Of Mordor

We're finally done crying over The White Council's cancellation and like Mom said, there are plenty more Lord of the Rings games in the sea. Like... ones that actually get released. Not only is Shadow of Mordor coming out - at the end of October - but it's also the most promising take on Tolkien's universe we've seen in video games. Troy Baker, otherwise known as Joel, Booker DeWitt and Delsin Rowe, will play Talion, a Gondor ranger of the Black Gate. After he and his family are murdered by Sauron's thugs, Talion is brought back to life with Nazgul magic, granting him all the ghostly powers of the infamous Nine Kings. Beyond that, this is a straight revenge tale, from both sides of the quarry. As Talion, you'll fight you're way up Sauron's ranks, but so will Sauron's ranks! We're sure you've heard about the Nemesis System, but there's no telling how such a mechanic will function with longterm play. One thing's for sure - knowing your enemy will make the fight matter more, a feeling elevated by the material itself. Some the finer fight-system philosophies we've learned from Arkham and Assassin's Creed have gotten an R-rating in Mordor, so don't be surprised when heads and limbs start flying... unless you're pleasantly surprised.
