7 Deadly Video Game Sins - Sloth!
5. Remasters That Don't Fix Problems From The Original
With a title as boastful as "Remaster", you'd be right to assume that the game is going to be the best possible version it can be. However, a shocking amount of recent remasters have dropped onto the market not just sporting issues of the original game, but introducing new ones as well!
Mafia II, for example, popped up with promises of a rip-roaring ride with Tommy Two Shoes and other notable mobsters but delivered an experience that looked like a Chicago Typewriter filled with bugs had shot holes in the damn thing.
The recent Crysis remaster, which lest we not forget was pretty much the original PC Killer, has now dropped onto consoles with appalling bugs and is terribly optimized, but also managed to maintain the infuriating enemy programming that sees you from a mile away, cloaked or not, and shoots you with pinpoint accuracy.
And of course we've got the Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remaster, which I was genuinely looking forward to, but then realised is just an upscaled version of the mobile game version, meaning that it actually has LESS in it than the original! Limited online features and stiff controls made this feel less like the master version and more like a blurry jpeg of the original doing the rounds on Reddit.
It seems all too clear that some dev teams are willing to upgrade the HD texture pack and provide little else of note, instead looking to trade in on our nostalgia and the IP's goodwill for a quick buck.
