7 Glitches In Video Games That Became Essential Features In Their Franchise

6. Team Fortress - Spy

Street Fighter Zoo Tycoon
Valve

Originally, Team Fortress was a team oriented mod for the classic FPS Quake back in 1996. During the creation of the game, the developers encountered a glitch that resulted in a character’s name appearing in the wrong colour, essentially making it appear that they were on the opposing team.

This glitch gave birth to the concept of ‘Spy’, a new character class that could infiltrate the opposing team by impersonating one of their own. Spy went on to become among the most iconic and unique character play styles in the FPS genre, and he came about entirely by error. Son of a glitch indeed.
