7 Greatest Video Game Boss Fights Of 2013

1. Senator Armstrong €“ Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Like I said, Platinum Games is probably the absolute greatest studio when it comes to thrilling boss battles, and this is their magnum opus so far. Like absolutely everything about Revengeance, it€™s completely ludicrous and physically makes no sense, but that€™s where the charm lies. Prior to the real fight, you take on a prototype new Metal Gear and entirely dismantle the thing. There€™s a QTE where you literally rip off one leg of scrap metal and begin pounding the Metal Gear into oblivion with it. This set the stage for another ridiculous battle. It€™s a battle that heads through multiple phases, ranging from sequences you can€™t win and are forced to be bludgeoned to death in for cinematic gravitas, a sequence where your robot dog companion tosses you a sword with shamelessly epic cheesy music playing in the background, quick QTE€™s involving elbow drops, and more. Perhaps what stands out most though is the fact is that it forces you to completely master Free-Blade mode as Senator Armstrong hurls Metal Gear debris your way. It€™s either master this technique and properly slice the large debris flying your way, or take ridiculous amounts of damage you really can€™t recover from. This boss battle is outstanding and epitomizes everything a boss battle in 2013 should be. It€™s difficult in a fun way, cinematic to heighten the story, multi-layered for grandeur, and has another catchy licensed rock song that further electrifies the mood.
