3. Your Dog - Fable 2

Dogs. Seriously, you've got to love them.

They're hilariously stupid at times, brilliant companions, and always on hand for a hug after a hard day.

And best of all they've usually got your back in a fight. Whether it's barking at strangers that are getting too close, alerting owners to the presence of intruders, or most useful of all tearing the s**t out of that council tax bill that's just come through the letterbox like it personally insulted its entire breed, however, sometimes this devotion to protection comes at the cost of common sense.

One of Fable 2's most prominent features (outside of a combat system termed as revolutionary by Peter Molyneux before then explaining in the same breath that it would also be on just ONE BUTTON) was that you were accompanied on your quest by a lovely little canine. Throughout your quest, this little furry friend would help you find your way, attack enemies and even help you find buried treasure, and come the close of the game it even makes a rather heroic sacrifice to stop you from being shot by big bad Lucien.

It's quite the moving moment, to watch your dog die to bite the literal bullet for you. Except it's a moment that smacks of a boneheaded decision because of course Lucien has more than one bullet up his pantaloons and thus reloads putting you in the same position again.

In fact, this "heroic sacrifice" actually ends up costing the player as now they have to make a decision between resurrecting the dog or undoing the evil Lucien has wrought upon the world, and without this dogs death we'd be laughing it up with all those who's lives we'd just made better.
