7 Iconic Video Games That Were Created By Accident

3. Pikmin Evolved From A Nintendo Tech Demo

Pikmin is the equivalent of a sonic masterpiece that originated from a jam session between a group of musicians who had no idea what they were creating or how it would turn out.

The development team behind the original GameCube puzzler was handed an advanced graphics engine and tasked with creating a game around it.

The framework they inherited was originally a tech demo designed to showcase the capabilities of the GameCube at Space World 2000. Nintendo wowed attendees with footage of 128 Marios sharing the screen, but the game it appeared to have been taken from never materialised.

That's because the Big N came up with another idea for the tech, handing it to a team led by Shigefumi Hino and asking them to create something original around it. Pikmin was essentially the result of brainstorming on the spot and improvisation.
