2. Michael And His Home Life
GTA protagonists are very often down-trodden criminals who find themselves in a new city and have to work their way into the criminal underworld. It's rather refreshing then that the of the three protagonists in GTA V, not one of them is like that. Franklin is a well-established small time criminal, Trevor is a complete and utter nutjob, and Michael is a man who quit the criminal world and came out on top. He was placed in witness protection and now lives an illustrious life in Los Santos. He has a wife, two kids, a beautiful house and a beautiful yacht. He even has a pool and a tennis court. Of course, this life breaks down very soon after the game begins, and it is revealed that not all is rosy in Michael's life. Michael as a protagonist especially shows the incredibly different direction GTA V takes. Michael already has his house and it's very nice. You don't have to buy it. Similarly, before properties seemed like just a place to save your progress but this time you will feel a certain connection to places like Michael's house. You'll actually start to recognise when you are close to it. You'll recognise the road that leads onto the driveway. You'll feel the urge to smoke a cigar and relax by the pool. And this is just another fascinating way that GTA V grabs the player and doesn't let go.
