When initial rumours of the NX started leaking and people made up that fake N64-style treatment of what could be a new logo, fans rejoiced that maybe, just maybe, Nintendo could return to the heyday of the 90s, back when they were turning out genuinely industry-defining titles like Super Mario 64 and Super Metroid.

Because since then, the Wii happened. Amiibos happened. The Wii U happened.

The company have always been forward thinking, but after the original Wii changed how the entire western hemisphere looks at games as entertainment, they attempted to make lightning strike twice by introducing another 'gimmicky' system to the market with the all-singing, all-dancing Wii U.

As we all know, it failed, but if there's one thing the Switch proves - with its continued motion controls and 1, 2 Switch minigame collections, it's that Nintendo's top brass still think they can subsist off the 'mothers and kids' demographic, rather than those who got them here in the first place.
