According to any number of so-called love experts (newspaper columnists with nothing better to do), role-play can spice up any relationship. By assuming a new identity, couples stuck in a routine, jaded by doing the dirty with the same partner, can bring the magic back to the bedroom without involving a third party.

The details are unclear, but for gamers, 'role-play' can only mean one thing: dressing up as your favourite characters and hitting each other with foam swords or jumping across imaginary blocks. Anyone can see how that'd be fun, and doing it with a loved one makes it twice as enjoyable.

How dressing up as Sonic and Tails or Mario and Luigi translates to renewed vigour beneath the sheets isn't obvious, so you'll just have to trust the experts on that. It's probably something to do with grabbing rings or going down pipes.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
