7 Pointless Video Game Characters (Who Were Actually CRUCIAL)

1. Tohru Adachi (Persona 4)

A murder mystery is nothing without its reveal, and boy does Persona 4 have one of the best in gaming history.

With the story already a brilliantly-written character drama surrounding your hero's arrival in Inaba, you're quickly thrown into a murder mystery with a sick supernatural edge and a phenomenal cast.

Among them is your uncle Dojima who doubles as a lead detective on the case, with his lacky Adachi tagging along, appearing every now and then to relay certain pieces of information to the gang.

With such a sprawling set of options for who the killer could be, the second you realise it's the young, meek Adachi - whose motivation centres on the idea that anyone spending any time in a negative headspace wants to end it all anyway - the game wraps back around to those introductory scenes, some 70 hours ago.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
