7 Reasons Why Assassin's Creed III Is Vastly Underrated

5. Assassin's Creed: Forsaken

Ac3 4 While I'd love to place this higher, possibly within the top two, I cannot do so in good conscience because, technically, it's not part of the game. While most of the books are direct adaptions of the games, Forsaken is something different. Anyone who has played AC3 will know you play a large part of the game's introduction (which in my opinion should hold the record for longest introduction/tutorial to anything ever), as Connor's father, Haytham Kenway, who then appears throughout the game as a part antagonist, part helpful NPC, before he is eventually killed by Connor in an admittedly anticlimactic 'boss battle' of sorts (seriously Ubisoft, one of the most equally matched fights in the series that could be incredibly fun and epic, and you use the same mechanics as the f**king game's bar fights?!); Forsaken is Haytham's story, from his childhood to his death, told in the style of a personal journal (excluding the epilogue). So why have I included this, even though it's a book and not in the game? Two reasons. One, I highly recommend anyone who has played or is planning on playing the game to read this, after they have played the game. It adds an extra 'level' (I promise that will be my only horrible pun in this article) to the game, and shows that Haytham may not be all he appears. An example of of this is when the book describes Haytham's role in the attempted hanging of Connor. The second reason I think that it is essential as a few parts literally should have been part of the game, and at least one almost was. The three I think are most important, are an elongated version of the aforementioned anticlimactic boss battle with more dialogue and context, and for their sheer emotional level, are Haytham's final journal entry, and Connor's closing soliloquy. What makes me irritated is that the soliloquy was part of the game, but for a reason beyond me, was deleted! Why Ubi, WHY? Fortunately, both of these are available on YouTube, Haytham's journal entry because of the voice actor agreeing to read it in an interview (which is actually pretty awesome of him, if you think about it) and Connor's soliloquy due to it being found in the game files.
