When you think of titles with balls to the wall over the top action spectacle, chances are that you'll be thinking of Platinum games joint or as they were known back in the day Clover Studios, as this team has produced so many utterly brain-melting experiences that I'm surprised I've the wherewithal to talk about them today.

Amongst their absolutely astounding lineup is The Wonderful 101, God Hand, Vanquish, and of course Viewtiful Joe, which saw them partner up with other mad lads of the scene Capcom to create one of the most visually impressive and retina scorching experiences on the Gamecube.

Viewtiful Joe's combination of luscious cel-shaded graphics and time manipulation combat earned it praise across the board and allowed Gamecube owners to be smugger than they had any right to be. However, with such attention and success, it made practical business sense to port the title to other consoles, namely the PS2 and it's massive install base.

The port was a smash hit, but what acted as an extra jab to the plumbs to the original Gamecube owners was the fact that you could unlock DANTE from Devil May Cry to play as in the game! By completing the experience once, PS2 players could crack wise and crack skulls as everyone's favorite white-haired menace. It even recontextualizes the story to fit in with Dante trying to rescue Trish AND gave us the haunting image of Dante in speedos. Cheers.
