7 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Persona 5

5. It Takes 30 Hours To Really Get Going

Perhaps it's down to Persona 5 being the first game to ditch the Shin Megami Tensei branding in the West, but you can tell a ton of effort has been put into making this an entry point for newcomers, holding your hand for a ludicrous amount of time. Even after you've clocked Kamoshida's palace you'll still be getting drip-fed basic game mechanics like combining Personas, grinding stats, making lockpicks, accessing Mementos and keeping up with social appointments.

There is a lot to take in overall, but it's only a rare occasion where P5 lets you take multiple Requests, shows multiple characters asking to hang out or highlights multiple possibilities for how YOU want to spend your time. That is where the core Persona experience is supposed to come to life, and it does at times, but they're very short-lived.

The "overwhelming stress" various critics and commenters have mentioned as a positive way the game pulls you in many different directions at once? I've not experienced it, because everything is spoon-fed, one element at a time - and that's before Morgana actively chastises and berates you for attempting to do something other than go to bed in the evenings.
