7 Video Game Heroes Who Made Better Villains

4. Siegfriend - Soul Edge

Superman Injustice
Namco

Poor old Siegfried. He's had a bit of a rough ride since the Soul Calibre fighting game series has started, hasn't he?

Beginning his journey as a knight looking to rid the world of the powerful evil artifact known as the Soul Edge, Siegfried traveled the world fighting evil wherever he found it (and likely shouting "Ha Haaa Take That You Knave" as he did), yet he got a little more than he bargained for when he finally bested the evil pirate known as Cervantes who was at the time, the current wielder of the cursed blade, or should I say he rocked up after the fight had taken place and attempted to loot the weapon for his own.

Yeah, not as heroic that last bit right?

Figuring that his pure heart could withstand the temptations of power, Siegfried tried to wield the blade, but UH-OH who could have seen that a legendary cursed blade would win out over a lad who was actually only interested in finding the weapon to pin the blame on it for his father's death. In a mere moment, all of Siegfried's anguish and anger turned him into Nightmare, the new wielder of the Soul Edge, and bad news for anything that cast a shadow.

For several games, Nightmare was the de facto !*$% of the series and caused suffering wherever it went, and yet for players, this was a blessing, as with its monstrously cool design, overwhelming power and rather tragic leaning, made Nightmare a truly impressive boss to fight, and gave Siegfried much more gravitas as a character than his heroic first run ever did.
