7 Video Game NPCs That NEED Their Own Game

Hollow Knight is a game that absolutely loves a tragic tale. Everywhere you look in the meticulous first outing you'll find characters who battle against the odds day in and day out, and some that have been so ground down by the weight of their experiences that they are naught but shells of their former selves.

Yet throughout all of this, there remains one NPC who is so steadfast in his beliefs that it borders on a new level of insanity, which could be none other than Zote The Mighty. Now Zote, bless him, is a warrior of renown and glory in much the same way that "Jimmy the Thief" totally didn't steal your Pokemon cards at school lunchtime aka they're both lying toerags. Zote is weaker than a cardboard skeleton and yes believes himself to be the stuff of legends, and his defeat is so resounding that you can't help but think of him long after you've left him in the dust.

And so what better character to base a game on? I know it sounds weird but think about it.

To draw a rather strange comparison to Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, this is exactly the same character arc that befell Frank West, who languished in the excess his fame brought him for breaking the story of a governmental coverup, but as a result has become lazy, and thoroughly directionless. Zote needed to hit rock bottom to be a better hero, and a game that picked up after his resounding defeat with him looking at the world differently could make for an earnest tale of self-redemption. He truly wanted to be a legend and his "severe humbling" would act as a brilliant first act toward becoming one. Plus thanks to his severe physical weakness, the game could even be built around dodging enemies, or using elements other than your weapons to get the edge on your enemies.

We've all talked a big game and come up short at least once in our lives, and likely come to remember that burning embarrassment that came with it, so a game that taps into that raw, awkward energy whilst being fired through the prism of Hollow Knights exceptional gameplay could make for one of the most engaging and real games in history.
