7 Video Games That Are BEST On The Hardest Difficulty

5. Devil May Cry 3 - Heaven Or Hell Mode

Now as we all know, there are some video games out there that take the concept of "Hard Mode" and use it to pummel the player into the ground like a human tent peg, to the extent where one has to ask whether the end result is enjoyable for anyone involved.

Doom 2016 infamously got the Ultra Nightmare mode which was apparently so difficult that none of the devs even came close to completing it, New York Minute from Max Payne 3 sapped the fun out of the experience as players were forced to contend with a relentlessly cruel timer, and of course, Ninja Gaiden Black just laughed from the shadows at all these pretenders to the throne as it "rope and ball" James Bond tortured its player base.

Yet there is one absolutely mad difficulty mode that somehow manages to be crushingly hard but also hilariously funny and that's Heaven Or Hell Mode from Devil May Cry 3 as here, everything and I do mean everything dies in just one hit. Including you.

After slogging through the game's other hard-as-nails modes this feels like both a reward and punishment for all your hard work, as now Dante can dish out the pain but also get shattered by even basic enemies over and over.

It's incredibly cathartic to topple once-mighty bosses in one blow, and the feeling you get from styling your way through sections is an unparalleled power fantasy. Because you can be sent six feet deep with one hit, it means you're playing almost a perfect run each and every time you clear a level.
