Now I won't lie to you, the inspiration for this entire list came from this game, which without any word of hyperbole I absolutely love.

This is, in my opinion, video game nostalgia done right.

It's a carefully considered, beautiful homage to the past that elevates not only the TMNT IP as a whole, but delivers such a fun and exciting time that it actually stands as one of the finest side-scrolling brawlers I've ever played.

It's also one that will have a vice-like grip on your dopamine receptors if you have even a shredder of love for the pizza-loving turtles.

Where to begin with this one? The graphics comprise a fantastic throwback to the arcade TMNT game but are filled with so much character and subtle animations that it's clear this is no low-poly filter rush job. The soundtrack will slap your cheeks so hard they will reveal your skeleton and the gameplay is so viscerally addictive and well-produced that gamers of any skill level will be able to pick this up and get right into the action.

Plus, as an added moment of true nostalgia, this is a video game that chooses not to sport an insane £70 price tag, and being able to walk away from this purchase with enough to buy a Curly Wurly or even dare I say it a CHOMP bar, makes for a bloody good time indeed.
