7 Ways Rockstar And Nintendo Are Exactly The Same
6. Delayed Games
Nintendo designer (and now Creative Fellow) Shigeru Miyamoto
is famous for saying, “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is
forever bad.” Wise words, Miyamoto-san.
The most recent occurrence of this with Rockstar was the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, which didn’t release until April 2015 despite a September 2013 launch for console editions – made more bitter for PC gamers because PlayStation 4 and Xbox One had their versions in 2014.
For Nintendo, this problem centres on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which was moved from Wii U to Wii U plus Switch because of the announcement of the new machine in October this year and poor overall sales for the Wii U itself. Breath of the Wild was originally revealed in 2013.
It can be truly puzzling to watch supposed fans in comment sections for various websites raging against delays for games – No Man’s Sky being a particularly troubling example in 2016 – because surely there are plenty more games to go back over or complete before that one important title comes out? And anyway, a little waiting never harms.
As my father used to say (when I complained about chores or homework): “You’ve got the rest of your life to play video games, son!”
