8 Amazing Video Games Ruined By ONE Terrible Mechanic

3. Renbu System - Dynasty Warriors 6

We've all heard the expression "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Well when it came to Dynasty Warriors 6 and its attempt to reinvent the wheel, it left players around the world lamenting "how could you Renbu this to me?"

For reasons that Tecmo-Koei will likely take to the grave, for some reason when it came to the much-hyped Dynasty Warriors 6 release, the dev team was tasked with taking the beloved button-mashing combo system that had been cemented in the series since the second installment and doing away with it entirely in favor of the new Renbu System.

In short, this mechanic was an utter dirty dick, stinking up the place with its promise of an infinite combo system, but leaving out the small print which stated that in order to "unlock" the better combo moves you needed to hit enemies over and over again in order to build up a counter.

What this translated to was players actually having a much more limited moveset overall, limited to just a few basic hits because regular enemies would die before the Renbu system ticked over into the flashier flourishes.

This had a knock-on effect of making some encounters with enemy officers way tougher than they needed to be, as you had to defend against their powered-up onslaught while having moves equating to threatening them with the bloody naughty step.
