8 BEST Movie Tie-In Video Games EVER
6. King Kong
Ignore its woefully clunky title, and Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie is a certified banger alright.
The game, which Jackson tellingly helped develop, is a predominantly first-person action-adventure game where players take control of Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody) as he attempts to rescue actress Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) from Kong.
Players shoot and stab their way through Skull Island's various creatures as Jack, but here comes the novel rub - you occasionally get to play as Kong from a third-person perspective, too.
Skull Island is lovingly rendered and the game's immersion is heightened by the lack of an intrusive HUD, while the intense action and scarce player resources make it a legitimately terrifying, pulse-pounding experience.
King Kong managed to thread the needle by delivering a cinematic action experience worthy of the source material and marrying it to a game that felt genuinely innovative, even ahead of its time.
In an era where Kong fans have to settle for slop like Skull Island: Rise of Kong, it sure would be nice to see the 2005 game get the remaster treatment.
