8 Boss Battle Difficulty Spikes That DESTROYED Players
7. Yunalesca - Final Fantasy X
It should stand as a pretty bad sign, even when you’ve been handling a game quite well so far, when a boss can execute an ability called ‘Mega Death’. To no one's great surprise, but plenty of players' great despair, it does what it says on the tin.
This entry isn’t to say there are no tricky fights before Yunalesca as Seymour Flux and Sanctuary Keeper certainly weren’t walkovers, but while the relatively smaller increase in difficulty as compared to the rest of the entries here has kept it lower on our list, the relatively higher bullsh***ness of Yunalesca as a boss has ensured she’s secured a spot. As for that Mega Death complication, you’ll either want to make sure you’ve rocked up with Deathproof gear or ensure one party member is already under a Zombie status effect because everybody knows you can’t die twice, that would be silly.
Like many bosses on this list, if you’re going in knowing what you’re up against, this is manageable, if not, you’ll probably be happy we included her.
Spanning three different forms, the second of which casts Hellbiter repeatedly which turns all party members susceptible into zombies and then casts Cura on them which, naturally, harms the undead. Muddle past that circle of hell and you’ll need to deal with Mega Death, more powerful versions of her spells, plus a brand new one called Mind Blast. This has the potential to inflict your party with Curse or Confuse. She also gets stronger counter-attacks which now trigger on every one of your attacks. Dying, which you will, also means you have to sit yourself down through a bulky unskippable cutscene again so that frustration should really have well and truly settled in.
