8 Cancelled Video Games That Could Still Be Saved

2. Dead Island 2

Dead Island 2
Yager Development

Dead Island 2 has always been a bit of a weird project. Even though original developers Techland left the franchise to create a spiritual successor in Dying Light, the series was apparently lucrative enough that publisher Deep Silver wanted to push forward with more games no matter what. In came Yager Development, the team behind the brilliant Spec Ops: The Line, to produce a full fledged sequel for current-gen consoles.

It was shown off in 2014 and it looked... fine. The sequel appeared to be nothing more than a serviceable, forgettable zombie game, leading many to wonder why Deep Silver would recruit such a talented studio just to put them on a project that was so pedestrian. A year later, Yager were dropped from game, leading the publisher to restructure the project and bring in a new team.

Nothing new has been released from the game since then, but the title is apparently still in development, this time with Sumo Digital at the helm. Still, with nothing to show, and nothing more than vague promises from the publishers, it might still be a while yet before Dead Island 2 - if that's what it's even called - makes a return.
