8 Coolest Things Gaming Doesn’t Do Anymore

5. Cheat Codes That Turn The Game Into Total Chaos

Thankfully, this isn't totally gone due to the likes of Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row, titles that thrive on chaos itself. Then again, aside from being a disappointing entry, the most recent 2022 Saints Row game also lacks some of the edge and variety of it's older siblings when it comes to cheats.

But once upon a time, it was pretty regular for games to be gonzo cheat galore.

Super punches in GTA: San Andreas. Moon physics in Tony's Hawk ProSkater. Playing as vehicles in Enter the Matrix or President Bill Clinton in NBA Jam.

Even genres that could be argued to be strictly more serious had weird and wonderful codes that just broke the game, like the ability to spawn speedsters into Age of Empires II. Cheat codes took on such a life of their own that the Tomb Raider nude code rumour even turned into the devs including an exploding Lara Croft button combination to trick thirsty gamers.

Video game cheats have just faded largely into the background now to prevent players from screwing with each other too hard. After all, many multiplayer games have enough trouble with balancing even without absurd variables like turbo mode.

Pour one out for the Big Head cheat, something that should've become an industry standard.
