8 Crazy Video Game Urban Legends You Need To Hear

7. Tomb Raider Has A Nude Cheat

It should come as no surprise that rumours of a Tomb Raider 'nude' cheat began to circulate shortly after the game hit shelves in 1996. For many prepubescent teenage boys, this was their first experience of a kickass female protagonist, let alone one rendered in 3D with oversized chest polygons.

Young fantasists with overactive imaginations spread the word on every playground: you could make Lara Croft take her clothes off by punching in a cheat code. Those lucky enough to have dial-up internet surfed it to death for the elusive code and scoured the pages of every video game magazine they could find.

Can you imagine the media uproar if this was actually real? Needless to say, it wasn't, but since the original Tomb Raider was released for PC, hobbyists released patches online that enabled sad, horny fans to play as butt-naked Lara.

Once Core and Eidos got wind of the X-rated Tomb Raider patches, they took action to have them shut down, which was definitely for the best because they did nothing to shatter the stereotype of gamers as basement-dwelling weirdos.
