8 Dead EA Video Game Franchises That Deserve A Comeback
6. Dungeon Keeper
You might think that the controversy generated by Dungeon Keeper Mobile was entirely attributable to its offensive monetization practices and dumbed down gameplay, but you'd be dead wrong. At least, in EA's eyes, you would be. Post-catastrophe, EA's head of mobile Frank Gibeau did what EA does best by utterly failing to recognise why its bastardization of Bullfrog's beloved strategy series garnered universal derision, stating that:
"I think we might have innovated too much or tried some different things that people just weren't ready for..."
Publishers shifting the blame of a game's failure onto the fan base is always a smart move, and it definitely had nothing to do with Dungeon Keeper's detestable first foray into the mobile market. A platform which, by the way, could have been the perfect home for Horny and his imp army, had EA not forced Mythic to make a Clash of Clans clone that insisted on nickel and diming its customers.
The secret to making a good Dungeon Keeper game is to ditch all of those forced elements and return to the remarkable (for its time) creature ecology and strategic dungeon building of the originals, not this cookie-cutter abomination. Bullfrog's classic deserves more than that.
