8 Early Video Game Bosses That Kicked Your Ass
5. Grilgan - Lost Odyssey
Never has a first boss in an RPG caused players as much bother as the feathered foe known as Grilgan from Lost Odyssey.
Whereas most long-form video games of this genre take their time easing in the player with a relatively straightforward battle, Lost Odyssey takes the approach of "you didn't prep for a battle you didn't know was coming? HAH! Sucks to be you!"
This winged !*$% will utterly wreck your party given half a chance and has an incredibly annoying attack that can deal around 200 HP's worth of damage to your entire group. Bear in mind at this point in time your health is around double that, and this can mage for a truly painful fight if Grilgan uses it again on its next turn.
Add to this poison attacks, regular attacks that feel like a slap from God itself and you've got the makings of a woeful boss battle. The aim here is to beat Grilgan as quickly as possible because the longer you stay in the fight the more Grilgan is going to waft his stinky fart of a fight right into your face.
