8 Essential Features Every Future Video Game Desperately Needs

7. A Dedicated Button Or Function To Pause Cutscenes

Just like how the bottom-middle face button is always jump and the right trigger is always shoot, we need some semblance of continuity across all companies and their games to establish what button should always pause a cutscene. As it stands, you literally never know whether hitting a button is going to skip the action onscreen or pause it. You're forever held in a Kylo Ren-like death grip, locked to your game of choice until IT decides to let you go, not wanting to accidentally skip past something incredibly important. The Xbox 360 had its Home button as a universal pause (that some games still ignored) so lets either have that again or the PS4's touchpad do the same. Developers could actually go a step further and implement a universal icon style that shows a bar filling, essentially saying 'If you keep holding this, the cutscene will skip' - anything that gets away from the terrifying state of affairs we have right now.
