8 Great Gaming Urban Legends You Probably Missed

2. Sonic.exe

Sonic.exe originated as a Creepypasta. It was envisaged as being "about a man named Tom who receives a bizarre CD in the mail from his friend Kyle, who he hasn't heard from in a while. Disregarding Kyle's note telling him to destroy the CD, Tom plays it and is immediately disturbed by the title screen showing Sonic with bleeding black and red eyes. As he plays the game further, Tom bears witness to just how monstrous this incarnation of the blue hedgehog really is." While this is pure fiction, there are many videos/picture etc that match up to the details found in this Creepypasta. In fact, there are full ROM hacks of the original Sonic game that allow you to play the Sonic.exe game. But the truth is, once you download this, the game itself is rather boring. The strangeness of this one has given it gravitas and made it stick. It is worth checking out even though Sega never actually endorsed it.
