8 Greatest Video Game Second Chances
4. Dynasty Warriors 7
The Dynasty Warriors series must seem like such an odd franchise to anyone not already deeply invested into it.
"So you're telling me each game tells the same story, with the same levels, and only adds in like four new characters with each iteration? And it STILL LOOKS LIKE ASS?"
Hell yeah, it does, and I'll pre-order that sh*t the moment it goes live. Now trust me friends I have been burned by this series so, so many times, especially recently with Dynasty Warriors 9 and 9 Empires making me feel like I'm on life support and my oxygen has been replaced with a canister of farts, but never has my faith been shaken more than with the release of Dynasty Warriors 6 and that goddam Renbu system.
To better explain, Dynasty Warriors is basically a power fantasy for the ages and posits you as one of many warriors of legend, so the absolute worst thing you could do is take away everyone's unique moveset, tie them to weapons instead and then have half of your attacks locked behind a combo chain system. That's right, if you wanted to do something more than a swipe left and right you'd have to build up a combo to unlock those other combos.
If that sounds stupid, trust me it totally was.
So burned were the fanbase that all Dynasty Warriors 7 really needed to do was remove that to net a win, which it did, but also added in more special moves, greater aerial juggling, and a retooled upgrade system, making it not just a far superior game to DW6 but a highlight of the series overall!
