8 Greatest Video Game Twists (With Zero Build-Up)

There's no rule that says a twist needs to make sense to be totally awesome, and so with that in mind, we turn to Conduit 2 and its hilariously bats**t, sequel-baiting final shocker.

The ending cutscene shows an all-powerful alien spacecraft, Tiamat, being woken up, just as a portal opens in front of the player and reinforcements arrive.

Hilariously, those reinforcements turn out to be Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, who because the moment apparently wasn't absurd enough already, are also wearing power armour while declaring themselves "here to help." 

With nowhere to go from there, the game promptly smash-cuts to the end credits.

If there was somehow any confusion about how seriously (or not) Conduit 2 was taking itself, that insane final twist surely cleared things up. 

It's one of those outrageous swing-for-the-fences endings that actually improves the entire perception of the game, flawed though it might be.

It's just a damn shame that Conduit 2 flopped commercially, ensuring that developer High Voltage Software never followed up on all that barmy promise with a threequel.
