8 Iconic Video Game Franchises That Went Completely Off The Rails

1. Star Wars Battlefront

The original Star Wars Battlefront and its sequel were two of the best games the all powerful franchise ever offered. Superb en-masse gameplay was complimented by a lot of freedom on the battlefield itself, and two engaging story modes that kept you playing long after the multiplayer fascination wore off.

Then along comes a reboot, and for the most part it was very good, including new characters and locations from The Force Awakens, but the praise really ends here and I think you all know why.

Call me a traditionalist, but my opinion is that video games should be finished when publishers expect gamers to pay for them. You don’t expect to buy a game that has more content in the handbook than in the game itself on release and sit around waiting for DLC to pad it out appropriately.

Equally, a game cannot be marketed on multiplayer alone. Do EA really believe that hardcore Star Wars fans have enough friends to truly appreciate online multiplayer? The best thing about Star Wars is the stories (apart from lightsabers) and Battlefront simply doesn’t have one. No single player campaign? What exactly did we pay for then?

Star Wars Battlefront II put you in the shoes of a member of the legendary 501st battalion, Vader’s Fist, and took you through their trials and tribulations ahead of and during Order 66. We wanted more, EA, not less.

Maybe they can get it right in 2017, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
