8 Most Incredibly Terrible Attempts At Voice Acting In Video Games
6. Survival Of The Utterly Boring Martian Gothic: Unification
Mankind's rampant curiosity for space is matched only by its fear of it. And who can blame us for being terrified of that yawning abyss filled with quasars, black holes and planets which by nature would completely destroy our fleshy bodies. So, unsurprisingly, there's been a rich history of grisly horror set in uncaring space in the video game industry. Martian Gothic: Unification was one such game, and played like a cross between The Thing and Event Horizon, with a little bit of Lost in Translation thrown in. The Lost in Translation influence comes from the fact that the principal cast sounds so damn bored. There's a part where one of the main characters attempts to describe the supernatural qualities of an alien standing just feet away, and he sounds more like some bored father reading aloud his kid's latest terrible story. It's hard to care for the survival element of a survival horror if it feels like the characters don't care if they live to see tomorrow. Honestly, you'd find more emotion in a supermarket where a patron has discovered his favourite soup is out of stock.
