In what will be a painful reminder for fans of this one who remain flabbergasted that so many critics just didn’t enjoy this as much as a huge number of players did, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky came in like a wrecking ball on Metacritic with a user score of 9.1.

And what did it get from the critics? A measly 54%. Somebody has some ‘splainin to do.

The 2009 dungeon crawler scored a 4.9/10 from IGN with reviewer Jack Devries decrying the game for “lazy and dated gameplay” as well as featuring unimpressive visuals, going so far as to call it a rip off, due to the game rehousing the content from the two previous games as Pokemon tends to do, and this fell in line with most of the other critics. Players, on the other hand, absolutely adored Explorers of Sky, highlighting its challenging but fair gameplay loop, gripping plot, stunning soundtrack, memorable characters, and enormously compelling story.

The game is now firmly cemented as a cult classic thanks to its dedicated fanbase.
