8 More Video Games Where YOU Are The Final Boss
3. The Suffering
When discussing the all-time great horror video games, not enough is ever said about the jagged masterpiece that is The Suffering.
Playing like Max Payne filtered through the lens of Silent Hill, this horror action title made waves upon its release thanks to its imaginative enemy design and creepy setting yet failed to churn out a longstanding franchise with the sequel Ties That Bind being our last entry into this gritty and grim reality.
Seeing as Torque's unnatural ability to use his own rage and pain as a weapon and that many enemies in the game revolve around regret, pain, and of course suffering, it made perfect sense that our anti-hero would also have a major hand in shaping the games final boss, which turns out to be a giant manifestation of his Hatred.
Taking on three separate forms, Torque's Hatred first attacks him as his creature form, then tries to get the drop on him via his human form wielding a Tommy Gun, however, it's the final form which is the most grotesque as here we see a monstrous figure with a smaller Torque trapped in a sort of umbilical cord hanging off of the beast, the subtext of which likely being that Torque has given birth to this monster through his rage and anger.
What follows is, on paper a beautiful message of overcoming your emotions to become a better person, but in practice is a lot of bullets, blood, and a cheeky deus ex machina device to see us home.
