6. Liara T'Soni and Shepard- Mass Effect Series
Ok- some may be inclined to think this is a bit of a cheat. After all, this is a series where the player can venture on a number of different romances and end up with their own squeeze, such as it is. But the Shepard/Liara story arc is important for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's the only romance story that goes through all three games (that is if you have the Shadow Broker DLC in ME2) and though it is hardly the most compelling romance story in ME3 (that honour surprisingly goes to Tali and Garrus' rather touching side-plot) it does seem to give the player a sense of a 'steady' relationship should you decide to go that way through the three games. Secondly though, and perhaps more importantly, there was a great deal of controversy about the concept of intimate scenes between the human Shepard and the Asari Liara which had many family groups on edge. Much was made of the idea of inter-species relationships and whether Bioware was just including this so as that pre pubescant boys could fulfill their fantasies. However, despite what some may assume, Liara and Shepard are an interesting couple, with some nice personal moments throughout the series.
