2. The Talking Hippo - Hitman 3

The Hitman games certainly love to get weird from time to time, don't they?

Across the sprawling franchise Agent 47 has killed in outlandish and over-the-top ways and then escaped from the area in manners that some would term "what the actual f**k?"

I'm looking at your secret dolphin exit from Hitman 2.

However, things reached a positive singularity of weird when it came to the recent trilogy capper Hitman 3, in which Agent 47 can, through a series of obtuse and nonsensical means, have a rather uncomfortable chat with a hippo.

By collecting a gold idol from a safe with a secret code and placing it on an old chair before then sitting down on the Berlin level, a hippo will emerge and float ominously in front of Agent 47, allowing you to chat with the beast over and over.

As it speaks about being a murderer, how Agent 47 is always alone, and how the hippo itself is a secret agent of a different spy network it may make you feel like you've done a touch too many bath salts, yet things ascend to another level of weird when you realize that lines like "When the wine is poured" and "Don't dance the dance of death" are actually setting up events that are yet to come in the game's narrative.

It's meta beyond all belief and will leave you with a nasty comedown to reality once it's all over.
