8 Recent Video Games That Utterly Messed With Your Mind
7. Psychonauts 2
I am so glad that Psychonauts 2 exists.
I could wax lyrical on how excited I alongside many others have been for the grand return of this cult classic franchise, something only teased to further breaking point by Rhombus of Ruin, and now, after completing the title 100% I can honestly say it's been one of my favourite rides of the entire year.
Plus it's a title that has utterly liquified my frontal lobe.
You might expect a game centred on so much brain-based platforming to take a few unexpected twists and turns, but nothing will prepare you for the psychedelic rush of a level set inside a mind experiencing senses for the first time in decades, or a set of tropical islands that speak of a mind sent into isolation due to it's dark past.
Everything is animated and crafted with care and love, and as a result, you'll feel completely bowled over when concepts like space, time and gravity are upended frequently.
It's also a title that doesn't flat out tell players why things are the way they are, choosing instead to infer a lot of the mental turmoil through level design. This makes for one of the most pleasant deep dives into the mind that I've ever experienced.
