8 Shockingly Simple Solutions To Landmark Gaming Deaths

6. Cole Phelps - Actually Attempt To Grab The Outstretched Hands

L.A. Noire is a game that incenses just as many as who love it, mainly thanks to having so much potential through a heady mixture of detective film noir backing, only to fumble it in every possible way when it came to broken interrogation gameplay. This lead to a narrative that was all over the place, with main man Cole Phelps mostly feeling like a total A-hole in every exchange, leading to one of the most forced 'hero sacrifices himself' deaths in the history of video games. Honestly, it was more ham-fisted than an all you can eat BBQ, and remains something that's hilarious to watch even in isolation. Hold on a minute though... We've established that Cole was a decorated soldier in his pre-detective life, and the game wants you to believe that even though as he's trapped in a sewer with a torrent of water about to blast his trilby to kingdom come, he won't even attempt to jump and grab either of the outstretched hands that are a few inches from his face? Instead, he pulls a stupid face more akin to when you realise it's beginning to rain, and disappears into the darkness. The way it cuts to his funeral is the most forced emotional beat too - giving endless fuel to the hate-fire than what the rest of the game had already built up in abundance.
