8 Star Wars Video Game Franchises EA Should Reboot

LucasArts

With its total dominance of the niche flight sim market consolidated, LucasArts set its sights on conquering a genre with a greater degree of mass-market appeal.

Cue the arrival of Rogue Squadron, the faster-paced, arcade-style sibling to Star Wars: X-Wing that aimed to provide a whole new kind of wish fulfilment. From the forests of Endor to the glacial frigidity of Hoth and the vacuum of space between them, Rogue Squadron's appeal wasn't so much about providing a gratuitous, in-depth control scheme for the Rebel Alliance's alphabetically-named fleet as it was reliving all of the film series' most iconic battles via accessible gameplay.

Given that the original enjoyed enough success to spawn two sequels, LucasArts obviously achieved its goal, but the Star Wars universe has expanded exponentially since the series' conclusion in 2003. A whole host of airborne conflicts between good and evil have played out in the prequel and sequel films, providing more than enough material for EA to give a fully-fledged arcade successor to Rogue Squadron the go-ahead.
